The weather has dramatically changed the story across northern New Mexico.
After months of drought, low snowpack and elevated wildfire danger, unusually heavy September rainfall has led New Mexico State Forester Laura McCarthy to lift statewide fire restrictions.
But the relief from wildfire conditions has come with another hazard.
Flooding.
The Gallinas River rose rapidly in Las Vegas, roads and low-water crossings were affected, and emergency crews responded to dangerous conditions throughout San Miguel County. Two people were rescued from floodwaters at Ojitos Fríos Creek.
This week’s Meadow City Weekly Review examines the changing weather situation and the local and regional news connected to it.
